To help us respond quickly, please follow these guidelines when communicating with us: 

  1. Check the website first! Many answers to common questions can be found on our website.
  2. Check the submission guides and template second! These also contain answers to common questions.
  3. Check our FAQ’s.
  4. Choose the right way to contact us. 
  5. State your question clearly and give enough detail to help us answer. If you’re having technical difficulties with our platform, please provide screenshots and explain the steps you took. 
  6. If you have a manuscript number and/or title, please include them in your message/email. 
  7. Reply-all to emails and messages unless an editor tells you not to.
  8. To comply with laws that protect minors online, such as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States, we ask that all students under the age of 13 contact us through their Coordinating Adult or parent/guardian.

When to Expect a Response

We do our best to answer every email within 3-10 business days. During busy submission seasons, the wait time may be slightly longer as our staff and volunteers balance many responsibilities. Every message is important to us, and we will respond as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience!

EMAILS WE DO NOT RESPOND TO

  • Requests to expedite manuscripts: We cannot expedite manuscripts for any reason. Please see our posting timeline. 
  • Requests to review manuscripts, proposals, or changes before submission: We cannot provide feedback prior to submission, but we do encourage you to thoroughly read our guidelines before submitting to see if you are eligible and make sure your manuscript meets our guidelines. After you submit, we will request changes if needed during prereview, and you will get feedback after it is posted. 
  • Advice on designing an experiment: If you need help designing your experiment, consider contacting Ask-a-Scientist. 
  • Requests to help form an SRC/IRB/IACUC or connect you with a research mentor: Because we are publishers, helping authors with these goes against our ethical guidelines. 
  • Product solicitations.
